For Those That Are Waiting for Us at the Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…

Fragile Circle

We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.

Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way.

We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding  the necessary plan.

 -Irving Townsend

SAM

Despite much suffering from abandonment in his early years, Sam demonstrated to his rescue family a heart waiting to trust again. Welcomed with love, Sam began a new journey overcoming fears and found joy once again as the loyal companion and family dog.

Ashley

Beautiful, sweet and kind are words that best describe Ashley. She was a friend to all and so easy to fall in love with. She never complained even during her final years when arthritis prohibited some of her activity. Ashley loved the company of anyone who came into her home. She will be dearly missed by all but most especially by her mom Rebecca – they had such a loving bond for 13 years. Rest in peace sweet Ashley!

Keiko

To My Special Mom...

To my special mom, some things I'd like to say,
But first of all to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this letter from the Bridge - where I now dwell with God above
Up here there are no tears or sadness, only eternal love.

Please don't be unhappy, just because I am out of sight,
Remember that I am with you, every morning, noon and night.
Today I had to leave you, when my life on earth was through
God picked me up and hugged me and he said, "I welcome you"
Its good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone...
As for your loving family, they'll be here later on.

When you think of my life on earth and my last few years,
Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears
But do not be afraid to cry, it does relieve the pain
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain

God gave me a list of important things, that he would like for me to do,
And foremost on his special list, was to watch over and care for you.
And when you lie down and try to sleep, with the day's chores put to flight,
Remember that God is closest to you, in the middle of the night

I wish that I could tell you, everything that God has planned,
But even if I could tell you, you wouldn't understand
But one thing is for certain, though my earthly life is over,
I'm more happy, healthy and content, than I ever was before

If you can help another, who is in sorrow and in pain
Then you can say to God at night, "My day was not in vain".
And when you're walking down the street, with me on your mind
I'm walking in your footsteps, only a short trot behind

There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb
But a rescuer's heart is big and strong, just take it one day at a time
For it is simply God's nature and I'd like it for you too
That as you give to the world, the world will give to you

And when your time on earth is up to leave your body and be free,
Remember you are not "going", You are coming up here to me.

With love,
Keiko

In Memory and Honor of Buck, WRPD K9, Retired.

Buck was born in Czechoslovakia. He served on the Wood River, Illinois, Police Department for 8 years

and his favorite thing to do was sit in the back seat and bark the ENTIRE shift.

He had been retired for 3 years and took to being an indoor dog like nobody's business.

He never lost the commanding presence of a Police K9, establishing a base of operations

from his favorite bed, which just happened to be the THE COUCH.

We ended up sitting on the floor and I am not sure how that happens.

He was truly a loved member of our family and we miss him dearly.
